Crescent City Farmers Market offers special tour on Mother's Day

The Crescent City Farmers Market celebrates Mother's Day on May 10 with Parkway and Parks Partners "Take Your Mama To Go By the Gardens." Participants will take a bus tour of eight community gardens throughout the city.

The bus will leave the Farmers Market at 10 a.m. and will take about a 2 1/2-hour tour. Mary Dike with Parkway and Parks said the bus will stop at one of the gardens so that participants can view the garden up close and talk to the gardeners.

There are 50 community gardens in the city, according to Dike. Some are kept by school groups, neighborhood groups, or senior citizen groups. Dike says with 10,000 vacant lots in the city, community gardens are one way to help beautify the city and do something positive with some of the lots.
