Loyola University New Orleans Launches Pre-Health Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs

Loyola press release - April 24, 2018

Loyola University New Orleans College of Nursing and Health proudly launches a new Pre-Health Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program. The Pre-Health Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (PB-Health) is aimed at supporting recent graduates and career changers with a bachelor’s degree who have a drive and passion for a career in health sciences, but lack the courses required for entry into their program of choice. The PB-Health Certificate at Loyola University New Orleans prepares students for study in medical school, dental school, veterinary school, physician assistant programs, physical therapy programs, and more.

Students admitted to this continuing education program can get started as soon as Summer 2018.

“Whether you’re a recent graduate in need of extra courses for med school or a professional looking for a career change, the Pre-Health Post-Baccalaureate Program at Loyola University New Orleans can help you,” said CJ Stephenson, director of the pre-health post-bac program. “No matter what you studied in college, our program can prepare you for a career in the health care industry.”

“This new program will serve the needs of career-changers who have discovered health sciences as a future profession — but need additional coursework to pursue further study in their desired field,” said Melanie McKay, vice provost of academic affairs. “This fantastic new program allows college graduates to prepare for advanced study in medical school, dental school, veterinary school, and other programs, and to do so while learning in the Jesuit tradition.”

Students will work with Loyola University New Orleans academic and pre-health advisors to identify courses that best meet their needs. Loyola’s small class sizes – at a ratio of 11:1 students to teachers — give students the chance to build strong relationships with professors as well as close networks with colleagues. Students will receive one-on-one guidance and support throughout the program as they apply to their desired graduate program. Loyola’s outstanding curricula and supportive environment will help students become competitive for enrollment in exceptional health programs.

Students who want first consideration for summer session should apply by May 18. First consideration for fall semester enrollment is July 15.
