Loyola University New Orleans Celebrates the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with 32nd Annual Day of Service

Loyola press release - January 9, 2018

On Saturday, Jan. 20, 2017, Loyola University New Orleans will answer Dr. King's question, “What are you doing for others?” by spending Martin Luther King Day volunteering throughout New Orleans.

As part of the 32nd annual MLK Day of Service, Loyola is partnering with Tulane University, Delgado Community College, and University of New Orleans to bring together more than 600 students in service to others across the city. Students will volunteer at 15 sites with projects that include: working with youth, community gardening, bead sorting, and neighborhood clean-ups.

“Service to others is a key element of education at Loyola University New Orleans, where our Jesuit motto is ‘men and women with and for others,’ and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a wonderful way for students to demonstrate that commitment,” said Loyola University New Orleans Associate Director of Student Involvement JaQuille Collins. “In keeping with Dr. King’s vision of collective work for social justice, students from across New Orleans will come together to celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. King through volunteerism.”

The 15 sites where students will be performing service include:

  • Dress for Success New Orleans
  • A Studio in the Woods
  • Louisiana Children's Museum
  • Good Work Network
  • Edible Schoolyard New Orleans (Langston Hughes Academy)
