Loyola Presents New York Voices

Loyola press release - September 21, 2017

Loyola Presents Grammy Award-winning vocal group New York Voices, one of the nation’s top vocal jazz ensembles. The internationally renowned performers promise to rock New Orleans in an upcoming concert hosted by Loyola University New Orleans’ acclaimed School of Music.

New York Voices perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 in Louis J. Roussel Hall at Loyola University New Orleans. Tickets may be purchased online at presents.loyno.edu, by emailing tickets@loyno.edu, or by calling the box office at (504) 865-2074.

“For nearly 30 years, New York Voices has entertained audiences around the world with their incredible sound and artistic presentation,” said Kern Maass, dean of Loyola’s acclaimed College of Music and Fine Arts. “Located in the birthplace of jazz, Loyola University New Orleans is pleased to bring New York Voices to New Orleans audiences and to allow our students the opportunity to experience and learn from their incredible performance.”

Known for their close-knit voicings, inspired arrangements and unparalleled vocal blend, the Grammy Award winning vocal group has refined their musical story to a high art. 2018 marks New York Voices’ 30th Anniversary in music. Their chameleon-like musicianship allows them to move seamlessly from setting to setting, be it orchestral/big band to the intimate trio lineup. With deep interests rooted in jazz, Brazilian, R & B, classical, and pop, their music mixes traditional sensibilities with more than a dash of the unexpected.

New York Voices are first call from great arrangers and conductors like Don Sebesky, Michael Abene, Keith Lockhart, and Rob Fisher who all know and admire the complexity of what they do and want something out of the ordinary, something extraordinary. Like the great jazz vocal groups that have come before — Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, Singers Unlimited, and The Manhattan Transfer — they are firmly a part of that legacy and are dedicated to passing it on to generations to come.

The Boston Herald has said: “New York Voices lives up to its reputation as the most exciting vocal ensemble in current jazz...to collect such quality voices in one group is rare enough, yet the real trick of New York Voices is how well they mesh…”
