Loyola University New Orleans Presents the Third Annual Fools Fest: Loyola Family Fair

Loyola press release - March 15, 2017

In the run-up to April’s Fools Day, Loyola is having fun! Loyola presents the third annual Fools Fest: Loyola Family Fair from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 in the Peace Quad of Loyola’s main campus, 6363 St. Charles Ave. The event is free and open to the members and partners of the Loyola community.

The Loyola festival is emerging this year with a new title and expanded focus from the previous two years highlighting the entire Loyola community and their families. Run completely by students, this family affair will spotlight more than 10 bands featuring students and alumni from Loyola’s Popular and Commercial Music program and acclaimed Film and Music Industry Studies Program.

The live music extravaganza will include a student organization showcase featuring field day games, classic carnival games, arts and crafts, international food tastings, and more family-friendly activities.

Headlining this year’s festival is local New Orleans indie rock group Sweet Crude, playing progressive music that embraces Louisiana French-speaking tradition. Performing at this year’s Jazz Festival in April, Sweet Crude has also opened for big names including famed Bounce artist Big Freedia.

Other acts throughout the day include Red and Co., Richard Rourke, John Rankin, Grandpa Grew Trees, Elysian Feel, Killer Dale, and more performances by members of the Loyola community including students, faculty, staff and alums.

The annual event is run by a committee made up of students from the Film and Music Industry Studies Program. The committee also worked with various on-campus organizations including The Shawn M. Donnelley Center, a student-run public relations agency that gives students real-world experience with local nonprofits to create strategic communication solutions.

This year the event is sponsored by Arthur J. Gallagher and Co., United Health Care, Loyola University of New Orleans Student Government Association, Loyola University of New Orleans School of Film and Music Industry Studies, and Pathmark Transportation.

“Fools Fest is a family fair that we hope will over time become a Loyola and community tradition,” said Braden Young, a Music Industry Studies junior and event coordinator. “Fools Fest is designed to showcase the many talents of Loyola CMFA students, bring the campus and New Orleans communities together and give back to the faculty and staff who do so much to support us.”
