Loyola Presents Wraps Up Design Series with Alumnus Scott Carroll

Loyola press release - November 8, 2017

Scott Carroll, Loyola design graduate and founding partner of CDStudio, will offer a free design lecture to the Loyola campus and community. His lecture called “Scott Carroll: Makin’ It” will take place on Wednesday, November 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium.

Carroll specializes in identity design, packaging, and branding. He opened his design studio in 1995 and has spent the last two decades developing brands and creating solutions for clients including Tabasco, The National WWII Museum, The Roosevelt Hotel, and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. His projects have ranged from logo and package design to political campaign publications, books, and annual reports.

“We love hosting designers and creators in the Loyno Presents lecture series because it’s a great resource for our creative community within the university and throughout the city,” said Daniela Marx, chair of the design department. “Seeing work from other disciplines can be an inspiration, it can be a starting point for collaboration between artists, or it can be a true crossroads where students start to understand more about themselves and what they want to do with their art.”

Carroll has a passion for long-format publications and old-school printing techniques, and has designed several coffee table books including three LEH Book of the Year award winners. Scott’s work has been recognized by AIGA and he has been showcased in such publications as LogoLounge Book 4; LogoLounge Master Books 1, 2, and 4; Vormator: The Elements of Design; and Print Regional Design Annual.

Carroll’s lecture is part of Loyola Presents, formerly known as the Montage Fine and Performing Arts Series, which showcases some of the top arts events in the region. His is the last of three design-specific events in the Loyola Presents 2017-18 campaign, which also featured illustrator Maggie Covert LeBlanc and animator Erik Winkowski.

“We hope that the lecture series helps students take what they’re learning in the classroom and go beyond the theory,” Marx said. “Seeing what they’re learning put into practice helps transition their mind from student to professional and can help connect what they’re doing now to a future career.”

Carroll is an alumnus of Loyola’s design program, the only undergraduate design degree program in the greater New Orleans area. Loyola University New Orleans is the only school within the 28 AJCU colleges and universities to have a College of Music and Fine Arts — and the only Jesuit university that offers a Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design. Recently, the University announced an Interaction Design degree program beginning in Fall 2018, which focuses on designing interactive digital elements for game design, web design, and app design.

Loyola Presents: Scott Carroll will take place in Nunemaker Auditorium, Third Floor, Monroe Hall, Loyola University New Orleans, 6363 St. Charles Ave. This event is free and open to the public and free parking is available in the university’s West Road garage, located off St. Charles Avenue.
