Loyola University New Orleans Celebrates Wolves on the Prowl

Loyola press release - October 20, 2017

Alumni around the U.S. volunteer in honor of Loyola’s national day of service

Loyola University New Orleans students, faculty and alumni will come together as men and women for and with others on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 for the 18th annual Wolves on the Prowl national day of service. Loyola alumni and students will gather at KIPP Central City Primary School to beautify the school grounds. Projects will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. at the school, located at 2625 Thalia Street, New Orleans. Alumni volunteers can register here. Those who are not able to volunteer, but would like to make a financial contribution to the Loyola Fund in support of community service opportunities, may do so by clicking here.

Wolves on the Prowl, Loyola’s longest-running service program, pairs volunteers from the Loyola community with various programs around the country that need help. This year’s program is planned and led by Loyola’s Office of Alumni Engagement, Mission and Ministry, and Student Government Association. This year, nine alumni cities from around the country, including New Orleans, will take part in this day of service.

“Through our mission as a Jesuit Catholic university, we prepare our students to lead meaningful lives with and for others and to work for a more just world,” said Loyola alumni engagement officer Caroline Gernhauser. “Wolves on the Prowl is a way for students and alumni to live out our mission by serving the communities they live in.”

Alumni across the country will take part in similar service opportunities between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. On Oct. 28, alumni in New York will help to serve the hungry at the Common Food Pantry. On Nov. 4, alumni in Austin will assist with author check-in and hospitality at the Texas Book Festival, while Chicago alumni will work in the warehouse at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Denver alumni will serve food at Samaritan House, and in Orlando, alumni will work with the Orlando Rescue Mission. On Nov. 11, Dallas alumni will serve the hungry with the North Texas Food Bank. Last but not least, Los Angeles Alumni will participate Nov. 18 in the United Way Home Walk 2017, a 5K walk designed to help raise support to end homelessness.
