Loyola University New Orleans Brings Alumni Jazz Quintet to Music in the Oaks

Loyola press release - October 2, 2017

Bring your lawn chairs and picnic baskets! Loyola University New Orleans is proud to participate Sunday in the annual “Music Under the Oaks” performance series sponsored by Bellwether Technology, Iberia Bank and Audubon Park. Watch star alumni of Loyola School of Music perform at the Newman Bandstand starting at 5 p.m.

Loyola Alumni Jazz Quintet will treat audiences to an eclectic mix of pieces ranging from traditional New Orleans music to more contemporary standards. The group features alumni from several eras of Loyola’s award-winning School of Music, including some of the most in-demand performers in the region: Doyle Cooper (professionally known as “Trumpet Red”), Clarence Johnson on saxophone, Meghan Swartz on piano, Josh Gouzy on bass, and Chris Guccione on drums.

The concert runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at the Newman Bandstand, located on the South end of Audubon Park, between Magazine Street and the lagoon. The event is free and open to the public with food and drinks available for purchase. All purchases directly support maintenance and improvements in Audubon Park, including lawn care, seasonal plantings and the protection of historic live oak trees.

“The Loyola community has long been a part of the multifaceted music scene in New Orleans, and as performing musicians, we love to play in beautiful places, like the historic and alluring Newman Bandstand,” said Associate Professor of Classical and Jazz Trumpet Dr. Nick Volz. “The Music Under the Oaks series is a wonderful opportunity for our campus community and local audiences to enjoy a free concert by top-flight performers in the unique and relaxed setting of Audubon Park.”
