Loyola press release - September 23, 2016

3-D animator Deborah Anderson joins Loyola design faculty in Spring 2017

Energetic 3-D designer Deborah Anderson comes to Loyola to guide design students through her travels around the world of animation and provide insight into the industry on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. at Nunemaker Auditorium, Monroe Hall, Loyola University New Orleans. The design forum, hosted in partnership with the AIGA, is free and open to the public.

Anderson has worked as a 3-D modeler on shows such as Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and Scooby Doo. Building on these experiences, Anderson currently works as an animation specialist for Louisiana Economic Development – Fast Start, where she helps companies from across the state animate their processes training materials. She has a passion for teaching children and adults about animation and does so in her free time.

“Loyola’s Bachelor of Design and professional degree program is the only undergraduate degree program of its kind in the City of New Orleans and prepares students for a multitude of careers in the evolving field of design,” said Department Chair Daniela Marx. “With state-of-the-art facilities in Monroe Hall, and speakers like Anderson, Loyola’s Design program not only prepares its students for successful careers, but also generates multiskilled and passionate professionals ready and excited to work in all sorts of environments.”

In Loyola’s Design program, students participate in rigorous internships and learn a broad array of skills from traditional calligraphy and sign painting to print, interactive and 3-D animation design. They also learn business skills in the Contracts and Ethics course.

The program, which emphasizes strong ties to the revitalization of the historic city of New Orleans, also features a social justice component in which students help local neighborhoods and businesses to hone their brand identities and shine as vital components to the community.

Deborah Anderson will teach a Design Topics: 3d Animation course at Loyola in Spring 2017.
