Loyola University New Orleans “Pop Comm” Students Present Third Saturdays

Loyola press release - September 16, 2016

Loyola’s popular and commercial music major has doubled in size after one year and showcases student talent every third Saturday with performances of original work.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 17 at 8:30 p.m. at the Neutral Ground – New Orleans' iconic folk-indie coffeehouse – seven specially selected Loyola musicians will perform original material ranging from folk, country, and blues to reggae, hip hop, and EDM.

The first event features Isaac Derr at 8:30 p.m., Tracci Lee at 8:55 p.m., Jake Meyer at 9:20 p.m., James Quick at 9:45 p.m., Carolena Albert at 10:10 p.m., Marissa Cazalas at 10:35 p.m., and Ayotemi Adediwura at 11 p.m.

The evening of performances, which spotlights popular and commercial music students and welcomes others, highlights the creative work going on in the popular and commercial music program – only in its second year and already among one of the top three most popular majors among first-year students at Loyola. Doubling in size this year, the major has brought a new performance dimension to Loyola’s music industry studies program.

In the Department of Film and Music Industry Studies at Loyola, students study both the business and entrepreneurial aspects of the music, movie, and media industries and the art of writing, performing, and producing popular music in a wide range of styles.

“The Third Saturday program is intended to feature our students' talents in a close-up, intimate performance space, where they can see each other and be seen and heard by the Loyola community and the wider New Orleans music scene,” said Extraordinary Professor of Music Industries Studies Lo Faber.

Performances will begin at 8:30 p.m. every third Saturday of the month. There is no cover charge, and all ages are welcome.
