Loyola’s Innovation Speaker Series Presents “Generation Startup”

Loyola press release - November 9, 2016

Film screening to be followed by Venture for America Career Panel

This week, Loyola University New Orleans’ Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Development presents the New Orleans premiere of the film “Generation Start-Up,” as part of its Innovation Speaker Series aimed at area business leaders and students. The film screening will be followed by a Venture for America career panel with Loyola alumni Andrew Albert and Ashley Meeks, who will share their own experiences with startups through the national fellowship program.

All Loyola juniors and seniors looking for potential careers in entrepreneurship should attend this event, which will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14 at Loyola University New Orleans, 6363 St. Charles Ave., Monroe Hall, Nunemaker Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Guests may RSVP at bit.ly/genstartuployno.edu.

“Entrepreneurship is more than just having a great idea for a business—it’s about who can execute on their idea and make it happen first,” said Kate McCrery, Program Manager of Loyola’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Development. “This film is a chance for students to see what entrepreneurship is really like, instead of just reading about the success that comes after all the failures you’ll never hear about.”

Directed by Academy Award winner Cynthia Wade and award-winning filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser, the film follows six recent graduates as they put everything on the line to build their startups in Detroit over 17 months. The film celebrates their passions, successes, struggles, dreams, and, yes, failures.

The event is presented in partnership with Launchpad, a collaborative workspace and community of entrepreneurs, professionals and creatives, and Venture for America, a fellowship program that connects recent graduates with jobs at startups, forging a community of entrepreneurs committed to building companies that matter.
