The Loyola University New Orleans Campus Celebrates Jesuit Values as Loyola Week Kicks Off Nov. 6

Loyola press release - November 4, 2016

Loyola University New Orleans kicks off Loyola Week, a time of reflection and celebration of the Jesuit values that sit at the foundation of the university. The week serves as a reminder to the university community to “Live Loyola” and to express Jesuit values in classes, offices, residence halls and away from campus. These values lie at the core of the university:

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam: Doing everything “for the greater glory of God”, or, doing everything out of love.

Cura Personalis - Care for the whole person, body, mind, and soul.

God in All Things - Recognizing and responding to the sanctity of every moment and all creation.

Magis – Seeking “the more.” Always looking for opportunities to better serve God and others.

“As the Society of Jesus itself enters a time of renewal under the newly elected Superior General, Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., Loyola Week is a time for renewal of our understanding of and commitment to the Jesuit, Catholic values on which the university is founded and which inspire our lives and work here at Loyola,” said Vice President of Mission and Ministry, John T. Sebastian, Ph.D. “Loyola Week — much like the ‘weeks’ that structure the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius — is less importantly a seven-day period of time, and more importantly a ‘season’ in which we bring our Jesuit, Catholic values to the forefront of our thoughts, words and deeds.”

The week begins with an opening mass at 9 p.m. in Ignatius Chapel, 1st Floor, Bobet Hall on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016.

On Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. Loyola’s Office of Mission and Ministry will hold “Ice Cream with the Jesuits” in the Danna Center Courtyard where all community members are welcome in celebrating the Jesuit tradition.

Classes will incorporate Loyola week into discussions. Mission and Ministry will also be tabling throughout the week in the One Loyola Room located in the Danna Student Center, where community members can pick up free T-shirts, share how they “Live Loyola,” and even get a selfie with “Flat Francis.”
