Loyola University New Orleans Releases "Streetcar Stories"

Loyola press release - October 26, 2016

Ding! Ding! Loyola University New Orleans today releases “Streetcar Stories,” a new web series that will have a new episode every week and is an easy way to provide prospective students and parents, as well as members of the Loyola community, a sneak peak of the student experience at Loyola.

Hosted by mass communications major and Loyola senior Edwin Unzalu, Streetcar Stories features a new member of the Loyola community in a casual, fun conversation about a variety of topics germaine to Loyola.

Discussions take place on the iconic St. Charles Avenue streetcar; Unzalu and guests chat about life at Loyola while riding past historic sites, century-old oak trees and beautiful mansions.

The scenery provides a perspective of the environment Loyola students enjoy every day. Built in 1912, the university’s palm-tree lined and historic campus is located across the street from the idyllic Audubon Park, replete with riding stables, running trails, lagoons, golf, athletic fields, and other amenities, including the Audubon Zoo.

“Streetcar Stories provides outsiders an inside look at Loyola – and at life as a student in New Orleans,” said Loyola Digital Media Manager Angelique Dyer, who graduated from Loyola’s award-winning School of Mass Communication in May 2011. “The streetcar in New Orleans is iconic, and so is Loyola, so to put those two together alongside food, music, Loyola lingo and holiday fun has been an exciting adventure.”

The series is a joint product of Loyola’s Office of Marketing and Communications and Elektrik Zoo, a New Orleans-based creative partnership founded by Loyola alumni Daneeta Loretta Jackson and Patrick Jackson. Led by Loyola Vice President of Marketing and Communications Laura F. Kurzu, the creative team includes Dyer, Unzalu, and other members of the Loyola community.

Future guests will include members of the Loyola community – and a few surprise celebrity guests. The web series will continue through the fall semester – and like students, will take time off for Thanksgiving break.
