Loyola press release - May 7, 2015

Elizabeth Joi Scioneaux was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Women’s Field Freshman of the Year, and seven other members of the Loyola University New Orleans women’s track and field team earned SSAC All-Conference honors this season, as announced by the conference office this week.

Scioneaux was awarded freshman of the year honors for her performance in the long jump and triple jump events at the SSAC Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. on April 25. The freshman from Reserve, La. took home first place in the long jump with a school record distance of 5.34 meters. She finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.06 meters, which is just .07 meters shy of the school record. Scioneaux also earned all-conference honors in both the long jump and triple jump events. Scioneaux was also a key member of the Wolf Pack volleyball team this season, participating in all 34 of Loyola’s matches as a defensive specialist.

Haley Milsark was awarded all-conference honors in the 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter events. The senior from Northampton, Mass. finished second at the SSAC Championships in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 5:11.71, and third in the 5,000 meter with a time of 20:24.78. Milsark broke the Loyola school records in both events earlier this season at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. Milsark ran the 1,500 meter in 4:58.03 and the 5,000 meter in 19:02.29.

Milsark also earned all-conference as part of the 4x800 meter Wolf Pack relay team that took home second place and set a school record at the SSAC Championships. The other members of that relay team, who also earned all-conference, are senior Emma Larson, junior Julia Sweeney and senior Jessica Williams. They finished the 4x800 meter relay race in 10:02.63, exactly six seconds faster than the previous Loyola record.

Senior Stevie Baray-Forget was named to the SSAC All-Conference team for her performance in the javelin throw at the conference championships. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native won the individual title in the javelin event with a throw of 40.54 meters. That distance set a new school record and hit the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics provisional mark for the NAIA National Championships.

Finally, sophomore Precious Semien earned all-conference honors for her performance in the 400 meter dash at the conference championships. The Geismar, La. native finished second and set a school record in the 400 meter with a time of 57.44.

The Loyola women’s team finished in third place at the SSAC Championships with a total score of 77 points.
