The Idea Village CEO shares secrets to a great pitch in free Loyola event

Tim Williamson, co-founder and CEO of The Idea Village, will be the featured speaker at Loyola University New Orleans this evening for a free lecture to discuss the critical importance and key elements of having a great entrepreneurial pitch.

“The Art of a Great Pitch: How New Orleans Became a Destination for Entrepreneurs,” is set for today, Thursday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Audubon Room, located in the Danna Student Center on Loyola’s main campus. Williamson is speaking as part of Loyola’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Development’s Local Innovation Guest Lecture Series, which brings in practicing local entrepreneurs to tell their story through the lens of a specific business topic. The lecture is also co-sponsored by Loyola’s MBA program.

Williamson will share the story of the founding and development of The Idea Village along with his unique expertise developing a compelling pitch for a new business or social enterprise. He has been a steadfast advocate for making New Orleans a vibrant entrepreneurial community and is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship and leadership at conferences across the country and internationally.

The Idea Village was founded in 2000 to identify, support and retain entrepreneurial talent in New Orleans. As the spark and often catalyst for the local entrepreneurial movement, Williamson has been asked to tell the story of The Idea Village and discuss the critical importance and key elements of having a great entrepreneurial pitch. Under Williamson’s leadership, The Idea Village has established itself as a globally recognized leader in developing place-based entrepreneurial ecosystems by providing direct support to more than 3,000 startups and leading the efforts to position New Orleans as a significant entrepreneurship hub.

The Idea Village’s annual New Orleans Entrepreneur Week has given Loyola business students and alumni opportunities to put their skills to the test in several different competitions over the past few years. In 2013, a group of MBA students helped Pierce Industries, inventor of a patented modular shoreline protection and sediment retention system, win the $50,000 Water Challenge. Last year, another group of MBA students worked with Cajun Fire Brewing Company, who went on to win the Big Idea pitch competition.
