Yahoo gets 'glazed and confused' over mass communication studentĺs love for baking

Forget the writing guidelines and traditional cookbooks. Loyola University New Orleans Mass Communication senior, Graham Blackall's attention grabbing food blog, Glazed and Confused, disregards the rules for writing and puts mouth-watering twists on all traditional baking.

Blackall's blog has been a success, landing recipes like flourless red velvet marble cake and chicken and waffles cake in places like Food & Wine, Huffington Post, Elle Netherlands, and some other sites before being honored by Yahoo as Blogger of the Week for the week of Feb. 17.

"My recipes have been published on a lot of websites, including Buzzfeed, but the opportunity to take over Yahoo's page for a week was huge," Blackall said.

Unconventional recipes on Glazed and Confused include king cake fries, coffee & beignet ice cream sandwiches, Cap'n Crunch peanut butter cookies and pb&j sandwich trifles.

Known to be a little more reserved in the classroom, Blackall's personality shines through his blog, putting all his charisma into his writing.

"I'm kind of a chameleon, I guess. I'm wild and have a huge personality, but I know when to dial it back. The blog, however, is no holds barred. My writing is very conversational and personal and I like to put twists on classic desserts. You won't find any basic chocolate cake recipe on my site," Blackall said.

Blackall realized his passion for photography at the age of 12 in Ireland. He bought his own SLR camera and taught himself the fundamentals once he returned. He didn't start blogging until he was inspired by his first mass communication course with former Loyola professor, Yolanda Cal, Ph.D.

"When I started my blog, I never envisioned the successes and the opportunities that I've been awarded because of it. I just felt a need to start creating content. I didn't even care if anybody paid attention; I just wanted an outlet to express myself. Watching the blog transform has been my favorite part of the journey."

Blackall wasn't always open to new foods though.

"I was the world's pickiest eater until later in my high school years. Since then, I gradually fell in love with trying new things," Blackall said.

"I love experimenting with junk food. I don't even really eat junk food anymore, but the feeling of nostalgia that surrounds it is universal. Repurposing somebody's favorite lunchbox treat can bring up some of the craziest emotions!"

There is much more to Blackall's work as he plans to pursue a career in food media in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles after his graduation.
