Snow forecast for New Orleans with Loyola Christmas events

Loyola press release - November 18, 2014

It's about to begin looking a lot like Christmas at Loyola University New Orleans with a pair of annual events taking place during the first week of December. The first event, set for Wednesday, Dec. 3, will transform the Marquette Horseshoe on St. Charles Avenue into a winter wonderland as 10 tons of manufactured snow is deposited on the front lawn. The event is open to students, faculty, staff and neighbors.

Snow is a rarity in South Louisiana, even in December. But at the annual “Sneaux@Loyno” from 6 to 8 p.m., sponsored by the Office of Co-Curricular Programs, attendees will be able to frolic in the frost just like they do at the North Pole. But it's more than just a giant snowball fight. There will be caroling, cookie decorating, refreshments and Santa Claus himself will be available for photographs.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, Loyola will hold its annual Christmas at Loyola concert from 3 to 5 p.m. A holiday tradition for more than 22 years, the event will be held in Holy Name of Jesus Church on the university's main campus. It is free and open to the public.

The concert will showcase the College of Music and Fine Arts' major music ensembles, featuring the Loyola Chamber Orchestra, the Loyola Chorale and Chamber Singers and the Loyola Brass Ensemble. The program also will include a Christmas carol audience sing-along.
