Loyola press release - September 23, 2013

From classical to jazz, Loyola University New Orleans will boast its talented music ensembles during the annual Prism Concert Saturday, Sept. 28, as part of the university’s Family Weekend.

The concert is free, open to the public and begins at 7:30 p.m. in Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Calhoun Street. Free parking for the concert is available in the West Road Garage, accessible from St. Charles Avenue.

The Loyola Symphony Orchestra will open the program with Richard Wagner’s “Overture to the Flying Dutchman,” and the Loyola Chamber Singers will follow with several a cappella works. Loyola’s Wind Ensemble will take to the stage with Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” and afterwards Loyola’s opera singers will treat the audience to a selection of classic arias accompanied by Loyola Opera Theatre Director Carol Rausch. The evening will conclude with the Loyola Jazz Band in Count Basie's arrangement of “All of Me” and Oliver Nelson's arrangement of “Down by the Riverside.”
