Loyola ranks 11th in nation for online master's in criminal justice program
Loyola press release - June 24, 2013
The Loyola University New Orleans online Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration degree program is ranked in the top 20 in the U.S. by TheBestSchools.org, placing 11th among online master’s in criminal justice programs nationwide, according to new rankings released this summer.
Loyola’s program offers specializations in justice administration, forensic science administration—and new this fall—a specialization in cyber forensics investigation and administration. Responding to the overwhelming need for trained computer security professionals, the new cyber forensics specialization is on the legal, administrative and management issues associated with cybercrime. The specialized coursework covers a spectrum of topics including computer forensic investigations, identity theft, espionage, cyberwarfare and their impacts to both the private and public sectors.
“We are a new breed in justice programming,” said David Khey, Ph.D., director of the online Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration degree program. “Both our forensic science administration and our cyber forensics investigation and administration specializations are cases-in-point. Instead of solely focusing on cybercrime investigation tools or on the science in crime labs, Loyola gives justice professionals who already have experience in these domains the ability to enhance and augment their existing knowledge while learning how to lead the lab, probation office or private security firm.”
TheBestSchools.org selects the online Master of Criminal Justice degree programs based on quality, types of courses offered, faculty, rankings, awards and reputation, including the school’s success in providing online degree programs. TheBestSchools.org looked at more than 70 online master’s in criminal justice programs this year; Loyola’s program beat out programs at the University of Louisville, Liberty University and Kaplan University on the list of the 20 best programs.
“This is the first time we had the opportunity to be ranked; to be listed among the leaders in the field just out of the gate is an incredible honor,” Khey said. “Our faculty and contributors are working hard to give our students the skills to be the leaders in justice. Our focus on building skills that immediately translate to the workplace is second to none.”
