Loyola's top-ranked study abroad program expanding

Loyola press release - June 10, 2013

Loyola University New Orleans is expanding its nationally recognized study abroad program, offering four new opportunities for students next spring in partnership with Jesuit and Catholic institutions in Brazil, South Korea, Ecuador and Italy. Loyola is ranked in the top 40 master’s institutions nationwide for undergraduate participation in study abroad programs, according to the latest report from the Institute of International Education.

The new study abroad offerings include three Jesuit institutions: Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea; Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador. The university will also offer another program at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, a Catholic university in Milan, Italy.

While Korea’s Sogang University and the Universitá Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy offers courses taught in English so students can continue studies in most majors, the study abroad programs in Brazil and Ecuador offer students with Spanish or Portuguese language abilities a chance to study abroad while sharpening those language skills.

"These partners have exciting new opportunities for our students," said Debbie Danna, J.D. '87, director of Loyola’s Center for International Education. "These are new locations with courses in a wide variety of majors—Korea and Ecuador even have opportunities for research and internships in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. These programs will make study abroad a possibility for more students."
