Preparatory ballet program features renowned guest artist from Bolshoi Ballet

Irina Vassileni-Uralsky, a graduate of the acclaimed Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, Russia and former dancer with the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet, will teach an intensive ballet course for advanced level students ages 13 and up in the Loyola Preparatory Ballet Program, June 4-22 at Loyola University New Orleans.

During June and July, lessons in the basic and intermediate levels of the Vaganova ballet technique will also be offered to students ages five and up. Part of Loyola’s Preparatory Ballet Program, classes are open to the public and include ballet technique, pointe, men’s work and variations. Day classes for adults will also be available. Partnering classes are instructed by Gayle Parmelee, associate professor emerita and co-coordinator of the Loyola Preparatory Ballet Program.

The Loyola Preparatory Ballet Program is a frequent sponsor of auditions held by professional ballet companies and schools from outside the geographical area. It is also a rehearsal site for Komenka Ethnic Dance Ensemble, a local ethnic music and dance ensemble, which performs at Loyola. Komenka also participates in the Loyola Ballet performances and tours internationally.
