'For Neda' documentary co-producer shares filming experiences tonight

Loyola press release - December 10, 2012

Iranian journalist Saeed Kamali Dehghan will share his experiences of risking his life to secretly film a documentary inside Iran at a Loyola University New Orleans screening and Q-and-A session today. The screening features “For Neda,” the HBO documentary detailing the struggle in Iran through the life and untimely death of Neda Agha-Soltan. The free event, set for 6:30 p.m. in room 332 of Bobet Hall, is sponsored by Loyola University New Orleans Film Buffs Institute.

Kamali Dehghan worked to locate and film interviews with Agha-Soltan’s family in order to tell the story of the young woman who lived her life in opposition to the Iran regime’s restrictive treatment of women. Her death drew international attention in 2009 after she was shot during the Iranian election protests that year.

Though Kamali Dehghan is a foreign correspondent for The Guardian newspaper in London, he is currently in the U.S. through the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. His visit to New Orleans was organized by the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council.
