Upcoming meeting reveals plans for Monroe Hall renovation

Loyola University New Orleans President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D., recently announced plans to move forward with Phase II of the university’s facilities master plan, including a major renovation to the Monroe Hall Science Building.

The university will host a meeting on Monday, July 18 at 7 p.m. in Monroe Hall’s Nunemaker Auditorium to unveil plans for the renovation project which is slated to begin in early 2012. University leadership and architects from the firm Holly & Smith will discuss details of the project and take questions from the audience. A reception will be held prior to the meeting from 6:30 – 7 p.m. in the lobby of Monroe Hall. The meeting and reception are open to the public, but attendees are asked to RSVP by calling 504-861-5888 or by e-mailing amvachet@loyno.edu.

The second phase of construction was approved by the university’s Board of Trustees in May and also includes refurbishments to two residence halls. To see recent improvements on campus from Phase I and a preview of upcoming projects from Phase II, check out Loyola’s construction video.

The renovation of Monroe Hall, constructed in 1969 and housing 40 percent of all Loyola classes, is the largest project in Phase II and will provide the facility with 114,000 additional square feet and a new exterior that more closely mirrors existing architecture on campus. The project will also result in technology updates, larger classrooms and new and upgraded meeting spaces.
