Loyola Bateman Team heads to national finals

Loyola University New Orleans School of Mass Communication Bateman Team has once again made it to the finals of the Bateman Case Study Competition, organized by the Public Relations Student Society of America. The annual competition challenges students from universities across the nation to tackle a comprehensive public relations campaign for a nonprofit organization. Loyola is the returning national champion.
The 2010-11 team, comprised of Janece Bell, Rebecca Molyneux, Kelsey Morris, Kelsey Pabst and Dominique Webb, successfully created and implemented a specific financial literacy program for Ally Financial Inc., designed to help low and middle income Americans better plan their financial future. The team conducted research, developed a grassroots public relations plan and held financial literacy workshops tailored to meet the needs of the surrounding community.
Bateman faculty adviser J. Cathy Rogers, Ph.D., associate professor of communication and supervisor of the public relations sequence at Loyola, says this year’s team overcame significant, unexpected obstacles to just to make it to the finals.
“For the first time, the client changed some of the major expectations at the last minute. So, I’m particularly pleased that this group was able to accommodate those changes and still got up to speed,” Rogers said. “I’m very proud of the way that this group approached the community service part of the campaign and conducted a lot of research into the best way to explain and package the best aspects of this program.”
Loyola joins Elon University and the University of Florida in the finals and will travel to New York on May 13 to make a final presentation to a panel of Ally Financial Inc. representatives and PRSSA members.
