Loyola community encouraged to have fun, safe Mardi Gras

Loyola press release - March 1, 2011

Laissez les bons temps rouler, but be careful! Loyola University New Orleans encourages its students and employees to enjoy a safe and festive Mardi Gras celebration. Classes will be suspended Monday, March 7 in observance of the Mardi Gras holiday and will resume on Monday, March 14.

The following are some helpful tips offered by the New Orleans Police Department:

  • Do not leave personal property in unattended vehicles. If no alternative is available, personal property should be locked in the trunk of the vehicle prior to parking.
  • Parents or guardians are advised to place a note in children’s pockets with their name, address and phone number in case of separation during the parades. That information will allow officers to reunite the parents or guardians and lost children.
  • Citizens should use public forms of transportation (taxis, buses, shuttles) or carpool to and from parades, as parking near parade routes will be extremely limited. Drivers are reminded that illegally parked vehicles are subject to being ticketed and towed. Drivers should also be mindful of the large amounts of pedestrian traffic near parade routes.
