Popular film group visits Loyola as part of fall college tour
Loyola press release - November 7, 2011
Loyola University New Orleans welcomes the popular independent film company Wong Fu Productions to its campus on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 7-9 p.m. in Roussel Hall. Wong Fu Productions creates short, comical videos focusing on everyday activities of young Asian-Americans which have become online sensations.
The group is visiting Loyola as part of its fall college tour. At the event, which is free and open to the public, students will be given the opportunity to ask questions and meet the members of this popular group. Wong Fu’s visit to Loyola’s campus is sponsored by Loyola’s Asian, Muslim and International Student Associations.
The Los Angeles-based production company began when a group of friends decided to make short films in their college dorm room in 2003 and post them online. The group now has a large fan base, stuffed animal and clothing lines, and millions of views of their videos, which include “Wong Fu Weekends” featuring Wong Fu members’ weekend activities, short films and music videos of up-and-coming Asian artists.
“Wong Fu Productions has had such a positive influence on the Asian community,” said Loan Do, co-president of the Loyola Asian Student Association. “What Wong Fu does is not your typical Asian career, they aren't doctors or pharmacists, they’re an independent film production company that makes short films for YouTube. They have shown the Asian population, especially the youth, that it’s okay to break out of the typical Asian mold and go after your real dreams and goals. LASO is extremely excited to have Wong Fu in New Orleans.”
