Loyola's Jazz Underground series continues with Steve Masakowski and Nova NOLA

Loyola press release - November 11, 2011

Nova NOLA, a progressive, contemporary jazz band led by legendary jazz guitarist Steve Masakowski, will continue Loyola University New Orleans’ Jazz Underground series on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Satchmo’s, located in the basement of the Danna Student Center on the university’s main campus.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for Loyola faculty and staff, and free for Loyola students. Tickets are available online at www.montage.loyno.edu or by calling 504-865-2074, and will also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to the performance. Free parking is available in the West Road Garage located on West Road and accessible from St. Charles Avenue.

Nova NOLA fuses together traditional Brazilian rhythms and soulful New Orleans sounds in a unique blend of original music and timeless standards from New Orleans legends like Louis Armstrong to Brazilian masters such as Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Masakowski founded Nova NOLA after Hurricane Katrina in an effort to celebrate the rebirth of New Orleans. Featuring a new generation of local musicians, the band includes Masakowski’s two children, Sasha on vocals and Martin on bass, as well as virtuoso vibraphonist James Westfall and world-renowned Latin-jazz drummer Ricky Sebastian.
