Loyola alumnus inducted into the PR News Hall of Fame

Loyola press release - October 31, 2011

Loyola University New Orleans alumnus John Deveney ’88 will be inducted into the Public Relations News Hall of Fame at a ceremony next month at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

PR Week magazine named his firm, Deveney Communication, one of the five Top Boutique PR Firms in the country in 2004. This year’s hall of fame also honors Richard Edelman, Edelman Public Relations; Roger Frizzell, American Airlines; Mary Henige, General Motors; Dave Senay, Fleishman-Hillard; and Melissa Waggener Zorkin, Waggener Edstrom Worldwide.

“We are so proud of John’s work over the years and are thrilled about his induction into the PR News Hall of Fame,” said Sonya Duhé, director of Loyola’s School of Mass Communication. “His energy and commitment to our area are reasons that he is nationally recognized as a leader in the public relations field. We are very glad to call him one of our own.”

Deveney Communication specializes in strategic planning, crisis management, media training, community relations, web marketing and media relations. Deveney and his team secure an average of $15 million to $400 million worth of targeted coverage annually for clients such as Starbucks, Ruth's Chris Steak House, the Louisiana Office of Tourism, the March of Dimes and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

In addition to Deveney, fellow Loyola alumnus Brian Conway ’05 was named one of “PR News’ 15 to Watch.” Conway was the former vice president of the Loyola chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and currently works at Weber-Shandwick in Dallas, Texas.
