Ayiti Cheri concert to benefit Haitian relief efforts

Loyola press release - February 22, 2010

The ongoing relief efforts underway in earthquake-devastated Haiti will be supplemented by a benefit concert at Loyola University New Orleans Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., in Roussel Hall, located in Loyola’s Communications/Music Complex.

The concert, “Ayiti Cheri,” the Creole term for Haiti beloved, will feature performances of Haitian dance and music and will exhibit Haitian art, poetry and cuisine. Loyola Director of Orchestras Dr. Jean Montès and his string quartet, along with Haitian dancers, will be among the evening’s performers.

There also will be a discussion of the history of Haiti and New Orleans and how the two regions are related. Haitian art will be on display and available for bid during a silent auction.

Although admission is free and open to the public, donations are encouraged. All proceeds will benefit the Haitian relief effort. This concert is the first event in the Lenten Series, "“Sacred Music and Sacred Words,” presented Loyola University's Jesuit Center and the Alumni Association.
