New Orleans Hornets congratulate Lady Wolfpack on great season

Loyola press release - April 9, 2009

Gulf Coast Athletic Conference champs, the Lady Wolfpack, were honored for their spectacular season by the New Orleans Hornets Wednesday night at the New Orleans Arena. Just before tipoff, Hornets owner George Shinn and mascot Hugo invited the Loyola Women’s Basketball team and head coach Kellie Kennedy to the court to congratulate them before the Hornets-Suns match.

The Wolfpack finished the 2008-2009 season with a 23-7 overall record and won the GCAC regular season title for a third straight season and the GCAC tournament for a second time in three years.

Kennedy, who is in her first year as head coach of Loyola Women’s Basketball, said she was humbled by the Hornets’ invitation.

“It is such an honor for the Hornets organization to recognize our team’s success this season,” Kennedy said. “As they know, winning a championship takes lots of hard work and dedication, and it means so much for our players, staff and program to be acknowledged for our accomplishments this season. We are excited about the opportunity and feel very grateful for the chance to be a part of the Hornets game.”
