Xavier President Norman Francis reflects on faith during Lenten series

Loyola press release - March 23, 2009

Xavier University of Louisiana President Norman C. Francis, Ph.D., L’55, H’82, will discuss how his faith has affected his life and career during the Lenten lecture, “Living Authentic Lives,” Wednesday, March 25, at 7 p.m., in Bobet Hall’s Ignatius Chapel, located on the main campus of Loyola University New Orleans.

Francis’ talk is part of “Sacred Music and Sacred Words,” a series of concerts and lectures on Wednesdays during the season of Lent, organized by the Jesuit Center and the Alumni Association. Each of these free events is followed by a coffee reception. Francis, who was the first African-American graduate of the Loyola University College of Law, is the longest serving university president in the United States and the recipient of the 2006 Presidential Medal of Freedom. He also served as a past chairman of the Louisiana Recovery Authority.

Rounding out the Lenten Series, Shades of Praise: New Orleans Interracial Gospel Choir, will perform the last event in the series, “We Never Lost Our Praise,” on Wednesday, April 1, in Satchmo’s Lounge in the Danna Student Center.
