Chinese political scholar to speak at Loyola Tuesday

Chinese political scientist and mass communication scholar Mu Qiao, Ph.D., will speak at Loyola University New Orleans on Tuesday, March 17, at 12:30 p.m., on “The Transition of China’s Media from Mouthpiece to Marketplace: Change and Continuity.” Qiao’s talk will be given in Miller Hall, Room 114, on Loyola’s main campus.

Qiao is an associate professor and director of the Beijing Foreign Studies University International Communication Research Center. Qiao’s research interests are international relations, global media and communications, and China’s politics and foreign policy. He recently published “Dragon in Eagle’s Eyes: US Media Coverage of China and US-China Relations” in Chinese.

Qiao holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature, a master’s degree in international politics and a doctorate in international relations from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He conducted post-doctoral research at the London School of Economics and Political Science and worked in the foreign office of the Beijing municipal government and at the Beijing Society for Comparative International Studies.
