Jesuit Center commemorates Lent with "Sacred Music and Sacred Words"

Loyola press release - February 9, 2009

Loyola University New Orleans Jesuit Center and the Alumni Association will present “Sacred Music and Sacred Words,” a series of concerts and lectures on Wednesdays in March and April to observe the season of Lent. Each of these free events takes place on Loyola’s main campus and is followed by a coffee reception.

“This year’s Lenten series is fairly unique,” said the Rev. Ted Dziak, S.J., vice president of the Office of Mission and Ministry and director of the Jesuit Center. “We are combining talks by two well-known Loyola alumni, former Mayor Moon Landrieu and Xavier President Norman Francis, speaking on how their faith has affected their lives and careers, alongside three musical performances that will focus on sacred music.”

The Lenten Series events will take place on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and include:

March 11 – “Living Authentic Lives,” lecture by the Hon. M.E. “Moon” Landrieu, B’52, L’54, H’77 and '05, former mayor of New Orleans, judge and secretary of Housing and Urban Development, at the Ignatius Chapel in Bobet Hall

March 18 – “Sweet Remembrance,” jazz concert performed by Tony Dagradi and friends, at Satchmo’s Lounge

March 25 – “Living Authentic Lives,” lecture by Norman Francis, L’52, H'82, president of Xavier University of Louisiana, at the Ignatius Chapel

April 1 – “We Never Lost Our Praise,” concert by Shades of Praise: New Orleans Interracial Gospel Choir, at Satchmo’s Lounge
