Loyola Recycling to set up one-time collection for metal items

Loyola press release - February 5, 2009

Loyola University New Orleans Recycling has arranged a one-time pick up of metal material in an effort to increase environmental awareness and sustainability on campus. The types of metal that will be accepted are aluminum, steel, iron, brass, lead and copper.

All Scrap Metals in Kenner will provide a large debris container Feb. 17, 18 and 19, at the physics loading dock to remove items that are to be recycled.

Items that can be collected include insulated or non-insulated copper wire, car batteries, metal instrumentation, stoves, exercise equipment, metal shelving, appliances, microwave ovens, refrigerators (Freon removed), air conditioners (Freon removed), water heaters (water removed and a hole drilled into the unit), metal desks, metal chairs and plastic chairs with metal legs.

All department chairs and key personnel should start identifying metal items that are no longer useful. Departments will then be responsible for getting the materials to the loading dock once the container is in place. Items cannot be taken to the dock except for during the three-day period.

For more information about the program, including other acceptable recyclable items, contact Kathy Anzelmo at kfanzelm@loyno.edu or call (504) 865-2215.
