Loyola celebrates the season with annual musical showcase

Loyola press release - November 23, 2009

Loyola University New Orleans will celebrate the holiday season with the annual Christmas at Loyola musical celebration on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St. Charles Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Christmas at Loyola will showcase several ensembles from the College of Music and Fine Arts, including the Loyola Chamber Orchestra, directed by Dr. Jean Montès; the University Chorus and the Loyola Chorale, directed by Dr. Meg Hulley-Frazier; the Loyola Brass Ensemble, directed by Nick Volz; and the Loyola Jazz Band, directed by John Mahoney.

This year, Christmas at Loyola features a mixture of classical Christmas choral and orchestral music including Vivaldi's "Winter" from "The Four Seasons."

Featured choral selections include "Calm on the Listening Ear of Night," by Renee Clausen; "There Shall a Star Come Out of Jacob," by Felix Mendelssohn; and "Magnificat," by Michael Haydn. There will also be an audience sing-along featuring traditional Christmas carols.

Christmas at Loyola has been an annual tradition of Loyola and its community for 17 years and continues to be one of most popular community events of the season. Free parking is available in Loyola’s West Road Garage.
