Former Loyola trustee to serve under Obama

Desiree Glapion Rogers, a Loyola University New Orleans trustee from 2002 - 2003 and a New Orleans native living in Chicago, begins her post this week as the first African-American White House social secretary, under President Barack Obama.

Rogers will be responsible for organizing and overseeing all White House functions and ceremonies.

She most recently worked for Allstate Insurance Co., where she was responsible for creating a financial social networking program. Rogers also served as director of the Illinois Lottery and was a former president of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas in Chicago.

Rogers currently serves on the boards of trustees for both the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

Rogers received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wellesley College and a master’s degree from Harvard Business School.
