The Maroon named First Class publication by Associated College Press

Loyola press release - September 29, 2008

The Associated Collegiate Press named The Maroon a First Class publication as part of a voluntary critique and evaluation program.

This is the second-highest ranking possible for a college newspaper and places The Maroon in the top 17 percent of all student publications in the nation.

The ACP, the oldest and largest national membership organization for college student journalists, awards student publications annually.

The ACP gave Marks of Distinction to The Maroon in three out of a possible five categories: coverage and content; writing and editing; and photos, art and graphics. The judges gave numerical rankings in six categories. The Maroon earned 937 points out of a possible 1,090.

Maroon adviser Mike Giusti is thrilled with the designation.

“This ranking is an honor, and we appreciate the university's support in helping us in our continued success,” Giusti said.

Editor in Chief Rachel Strassel agrees.

“It’s reflection of the hard work that The Maroon staff puts into making the paper each week. We’re honored to be recognized by doing what we love,” Strassel said.
