Loyola alumnus Dominic Massa publishes first book

Loyola University New Orleans journalism graduate and WWL-TV Executive Producer Dominic Massa announces the releases his first book “New Orleans Television: Images of America Series.”
“New Orleans Television” provides a pictorial history of New Orleans broadcasting by presenting more than 200 vintage images that cover a wide range of television programs and personalities.
“The book is truly the first of its kind, in that it showcases the history of local television like no other project has, with photos from four New Orleans’ television stations,” Massa said.
“Many of the photos have not been seen in decades, with the earliest dating from 1948, when the city’s first station, WDSU-TV, signed on the air.”
The book serves as a companion guide to two previous popular PBS television documentaries Massa produced on similar topics, “New Orleans TV: The Golden Age” and “Stay Tuned: New Orleans’ Classic TV Commercials.”
Massa collected archival photographs, video footage and memorabilia from local stations and interviewed many local television innovators who shared their experiences for “New Orleans Television.”
“I hope that it will help recognize and pay tribute to the legacy of our local television pioneers, who made the most of their new medium, creating a lifetime of memories for New Orleanians who grew up watching them,” Massa said.
Massa is donating a portion of the book’s profits to the college scholarship fund of the Press Club of New Orleans. Massa, who is a past president of the Press Club, was himself a scholarship recipient.
