Women’s basketball coach Kellie Kennedy hires assistant coaches

Loyola press release - August 11, 2008

Loyola head women’s basketball coach Kellie Kennedy has hired Jamie Thomatis and Fran Boffone as assistant coaches.

Thomatis comes to Loyola after spending three years at her alma mater, Ursuline Academy. From 2005 to 2007, Thomatis served as an assistant varsity coach for Lions. Last season, she led the middle school program. She has also served as an assistant for the Kenner Angels Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) program for five seasons.

A native of the New Orleans area, Thomatis played four seasons at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). The Lady Raiders made two appearances in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament during her time with MTSU. She finished her career in Murfreesboro as MTSU’s second all time leading scorer with 1,971 points.

Thomatis was an All-Sun Belt selection in 2001 and 2002. She made the All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) team in 2000 and was selected to the OVC All Freshman team in 1999. During her junior season, Thomatis was 12th in scoring in NCAA Division I women’s basketball with 21.3 points per game. She graduated from MTSU in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in health education. Thomatis will coordinate the recruiting, scheduling and post player development for the Wolfpack.

Boffone comes to Loyola after spending five years at Dominican High School. She served as the head softball coach for the past three seasons. She also served as an assistant basketball coach from 2003 to 2007 for Dominican. Prior to Dominican, she was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at John Curtis from 2000 to 2003.

A graduate of Loyola in 2002 with a degree in elementary education, Boffone has extensive coaching experience with the Kenner Angels AAU organization from 2000 to 2006. During her time with the Angels, Boffone was a part of four state championships. She will assist with practice and game preparation as well as aid in recruiting. Boffone is the vice president of operations at Progressive Barge Line.

“I’m excited to have Jamie and Fran as part of the staff at Loyola. They both bring extensive coaching experience to our program and have ties to the New Orleans area,” said Kennedy. “Jamie had a terrific career at Middle Tennessee and has grown as a coach gaining experience at the high school and AAU levels. Fran is a Loyola alum who has been involved with high school and AAU athletics for the past eight years. They both have great knowledge of the game and will be assets to our program.”
