2007 Integritas Vitae Award recipients named
Loyola press release - February 21, 2008
Each year, Loyola bestows the Integritas Vitae Award, the university's highest honor, to individuals who possess a high moral character in a lifetime of unselfish service without expectation of material reward or public recognition. This year’s award was presented to Thomas H. B’52, and Catherine “Kitty” Kloor at Loyola’s Benefactor Dinner on February 21 at the Ritz Carlton, New Orleans.
All recipients of the Integritas Vitae Award demonstrate courage of conviction and adherence to the principles of honesty, integrity, justice, and preservation of human dignity throughout their lifetime. The Kloors more than meet these requirements.
Tom and Kitty met as students at Loyola University New Orleans in 1948 and since then have shared their talents, time, and resources with others for the good of all. As parents, business owners, volunteers, and philanthropists, Tom and Kitty have exemplified what Jesuit education strives to create—men and women with and for others.
The Kloors have been very generous in donating both their time and resources to Loyola University New Orleans. They were instrumental in the creation of the Fr. Guy Lemieux SAK Professorship, and now Professor Gary Herbert of the Department of Philosophy receives support to teach in the same great tradition established by Fr. Lemieux. In 2007, the Kloors established two generous endowed funds at Loyola: The Thomas and Catherine Kloor Professorship in Business, and The Kloor First-Generation University Student Scholarship.
Additionally, Tom is an active member of Loyola’s alumni association, and has served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Greek Alumni Board, and was the Annual Fund chair in 2005. As the vice president of Sigma Alpha Kappa Alumni Association, Inc., Tom was instrumental in the reinstatement process of the fraternity, of which he was president while at Loyola. In 2005, Tom was named Joseph A. Butt, S.J., College of Business Alumnus of the Year.
In addition to her many efforts at Loyola, Kitty ha been a longtime member of the Ladies Leukemia League and contributes to the Jo Ellen Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards nursing scholarships to deserving students.
