Sacred Music and Sacred Words: A Lenten Series

The Loyola University New Orleans Alumni Association and the Jesuit Center are co-sponsoring a series of Lenten concerts and lectures, “Sacred Music and Sacred Words:” A Lenten Series. The series begins on Wednesday, February 13, and all are free and open to the public.

The following five events will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings throughout February and March in Holy Name of Jesus Church and Ignatius Chapel in Bobet Hall.

The Rev. Jerry Neyrey, S.J.
How Modern of God to be Inclusive and Impartial
Scripture scholar Neyrey speaks on Paul’s letters and they inform the faith and justice of today’s disciples.

Wednesday, February 20, 7:30 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Church
Concert with the Genesis Gospel Choir

Wednesday, February 27, 7:30 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Church
JAZZ: John Coltrane’s landmark suite: A Love Supreme, led by Tony Dagradi of the College of Music and Fine Arts and musicians. Music based on Coltrane’s four-part suite: Acknowledgement, Resolution, Pursuance and Psalm.

The Rev. Jan Lambrecht, S.J.
If for This Life Only...Our Future Bodily Resurrection according to St. Paul
Noted Belgian Jesuit scripture scholar Jan Lambrecht speaks on resurrection in the letters of Paul to the Corinthians.

Wednesday, March 12, 7:30 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Church
The Loyola Chamber Orchestra directed by conductor Jean Montes will lead a concert on sacred music (Ravel, Craig, Villa-Lobos, and selected Haitian pieces)

This series is another event of the Jesuit Center, which works to promote Ignatian spirituality and enhance the Jesuit mission and identity of Loyola University New Orleans.
