Loyola Professor of Sociology William E. Thornton, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, was elected to serve as a member of the Jefferson Parish Children and Youth Planning Board.

The board helps plan services which encourage positive development and divert children and youth from the criminal justice system, reduce commitments of youth to state institutions and provide community response to juvenile delinquency.
