Loyola hosts second presentation on nation's economy

Loyola press release - October 20, 2008

Loyola University New Orleans’ Joseph A. Butt, S.J., College of Business will hold a second presentation on the state of the national economy and the bailout measures approved and being implemented by the federal government.

The “State of the Economy” takes place Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., at Nunemaker Auditorium on Loyola’s main campus. The program is free and open to the public.

William Barnett, Ph.D., the Chase Distinguished Professor of International Business, will headline the presentation and then take questions from the audience.

This event comes on the heels of the Sept. 30 presentation, which Barnett and Professor Ron Christner, Ph.D., held to explain the origins of the nation’s economic woes and the possibility of government intervention. Over 300 people attended that presentation.

Dean William Locander, Ph.D., of the College of Business decided it was time to update the public on how the economy has reacted to the bailout bill.

“There is still enormous uncertainty in the financial markets. Bill Barnett has a way of explaining complex issues in a no nonsense way. People will certainly gain insight from his talk,” Locander said.
