Record-breaking Wolfpack women ranked #18 in NAIA poll

(New Orleans)—Loyola women’s basketball team now rank 18 in the latest NAIA Division I women’s basketball poll. The Wolfpack was ranked 19th in the previous poll
Additionally, Trenese Smith broke the Wolfpack single game scoring record for the second time in as many games, scoring 39 points in a 96-57 Loyola victory over Dillard, Thursday night in Dent Hall. Smith has also won the GCAC Player of the Week Award for the third time this season. The most recent award is for the week ending January 13.
Smith and Kiely Schork each set Loyola records in the Wolfpack women’s basketball 90-61 victory over Spring Hill last Saturday night in The Outlaw Center. Their record-setting performances are currently featured on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics website.
Schork broke the Loyola career-scoring record late in the first half, as the communications senior from Burlingame, California, hit a three pointer to score the 1,642nd point of her career. She finished with five points in the game.
Trenese Smith led all scorers with 37 points, breaking the Loyola single-game record of 35 points for the first time.
“Obviously, we’re excited and proud for Trenese and Kiely in getting the records,” said DoBee Plaisance, head women’s basketball coach and assistant director of athletics.
The Wolfpack women’s basketball team has won five straight games and is ranked 18 in the latest NAIA Division I women’s basketball poll.
