Journalism professor presents lecture on media coverage of the American court system

(New Orleans)ŚS.L. Alexander, Ph.D., associate professor in journalism in the School of Mass Communication, will speak about media coverage of the American court system on Tuesday, September 25, at 1 p.m. in Room 403 in the Communications/Music Complex. The lecture, entitled, ôFree Press, Fair Trial,ö will discuss media coverage of the American court system. This event is open to students in the School of Mass Communication.

Alexander earned a Ph.D. in communications from the University of Florida, where she was awarded freedom of information fellowships, as well as the student research award. Alexander is active in several professional organizations, including the Society of Professional Journalists, the Press Club of New Orleans, and the Louisiana Coalition on Open Government (LaCOG). Alexander writes extensively on free press/fair trial concerns, including, Covering the Courts: A Handbook for Journalists (revised edition 2003) and Media and American Courts (2004). She won the Loyola University faculty research award in 2005. In addition to her scholarly work, Alexander continues to work as a journalist, including serving as a host of ôWriterĺs Forum,ö a weekly author-interview program on WRBH-FM.
