The Maroon nominated seventh time for prestigious Pacemaker award

(New Orleans)ŚLoyola University New Orleansĺ student newspaper, The Maroon, has been named a finalist for the 2007 Pacemaker Award sponsored by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP).

ôThe Pacemaker is the most prestigious award in college journalism and is given to the top 20 papers in the nation,ö explains Michael Giusti, faculty adviser for The Maroon. ôOther nominated papers include powerhouses such as University of Missouri, Boston College, Carnegie Mellon University, Loyola Marymount University, University of Arizona, Harvard University, Duke University, and the University of Chicago, to name a few.ö

The Maroon won the 2006 Pacemaker last year and in 1998 and 1999. This is The Maroonĺs seventh nomination. The 2007 winners will be announced at the National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C., October 24-28.

ACP and the Newspaper Association of the America Foundation have co-sponsored the Newspaper Pacemaker competition since 1971. ACP began the awards in 1927. Judges select Pacemakers based on, coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on opinion page, evidence on in-depth reporting, design, photography, art, and graphics.
