Loyola volleyball receives GamePlana/AVCA team academic award

Loyola press release - July 30, 2007

(New Orleans)—The American Volleyball Coaches Associate (AVCA) announced that the Loyola University New Orleans women’s volleyball team was one of 16 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schools honored with the GamePlana/AVCA Team Academic Award.

The Wolfpack had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.364 for the 2006-07 school year. They had the 15th highest team GPA in the NAIA and were also honored as a NAIA Scholar Team.

“I am extremely proud of the dedication and commitment of the players on our team. They consistently embody what it means to be a true student-athlete performing both on the court and in the classroom,” said Tommy Harold, Loyola head women’s volleyball coach.

The award, created in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Nominating head coaches must be AVCA members.

Loyola concluded the 2006 campaign with a 22-11 record and fell in the NAIA regional semifinals. There are 245 colleges and universities sponsoring volleyball in the NAIA.
