National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics honors Loyola athletic teams

(New Orleans)ŚThe National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) honored all six Loyola athletic teams for their excellent performance in the classroom during the 2006-07 academic year, with each team carrying at least a 3.0 grade point average.

ôConsidering the demands on our student-athletes, their accomplishments in the classroom are remarkable. We are proud of their academic performance and it is something that we emphasize to all of our athletic teams,ö said Michael Giorlando, D.D.S., M.Ed., Loyola athletics director and head basketball coach.

The womenĺs cross country squad had the highest team GPA for the Wolfpack, with a 3.56 average. They also had the fourth highest GPA in the NAIA for womenĺs cross country.

The menĺs basketball team was second, with a 3.485 GPA. The Wolfpack men had the second highest GPA in the NAIA among menĺs basketball teams.

The other teams included womenĺs basketball with a 3.38 GPA (15th in the NAIA), womenĺs volleyball with a 3.364 GPA (15th in the NAIA), menĺs cross country with a 3.126 GPA (16th in the NAIA), and menĺs baseball with a GPA of 3.057 (8th in the NAIA).
