Memorial Mass, blanket planned for Virginia Tech students

Loyola announcement - April 17, 2007

The Loyola community joins the entire nation in sadness and shock over the senseless killing and violence suffered by our brothers and sisters at Virginia Tech on Monday. While our prayers and support are already with those most touched by this tragedy, University Ministry would like to extend an opportunity for all at Loyola to share their support. On Wednesday, April 18, the noon mass in Ignatius Chapel will be offered in memory of all those who have lost their lives or have been injured. Please join us for this liturgical remembrance. After the mass, a Loyola University blanket will be on display in the chapel and available for anyone who wishes to write a note on it of support for the Virginia Tech community. We will send the blanket, a source of comfort and warmth, with our messages of support and hope, to a current member of the Virginia Tech staff who very recently worked at Loyola. The blanket will be available in Ignatius Chapel until the end of the week. Come as you are comfortable doing so to pray, reflect and to add your support. A basket will also be available if you simply wish to leave a personal card or note. These will be sent with the blanket.

We are saddened and shocked at the shootings at Virginia Tech while also painfully sobered at the reality that Loyola University is not totally immune to such a possibility of violence. May Godís mercy bring healing and peace to our brothers and sisters in Blacksburg, Virginia. May God continue to keep our community safe while strengthening each of us in love and mutual respect to watch over one another.
