Loyola University New Orleans Family Weekend Plans Underway

(New Orleans)—Loyola University New Orleans will host Family Weekend on March 9-11, 2007. Listed below is the schedule of events:

Friday, March 9, 2007

  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Parents Registration. St. Charles Room, Danna Center
  • 9:30 a.m.-3:20 p.m.: Shadow your son or daughter to class. Classes are: 9:30-10:20 a.m., 10:30-11:20 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m., 12:30-1:20 p.m., 1:30-2:20 p.m., and 2:30-3:20 p.m. Please note that Loyola prides itself on small student/faculty ratio. As such, some classroom space availability may be limited.
  • 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Loyola 411. Learn more about various campus organizations and ask questions that were not asked at orientation. Danna Center Lounge.
  • 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Loyola study abroad information fair. Meet Loyola faculty who host study abroad programs and lean about exciting cultural programs offered in London, Paris, Rome and Tokyo. Danna Center Lounge.
  • Noon: Join members of the Loyola community at one of our daily masses. St. Ignatius Chapel, Bobet Hall, first floor.
  • 1-2 p.m.: Student Activities Program: “Transferring Valuable Skills: Student Involvement Can Lead to Career Success.” Join Chris Cameron, director of the Danna Center and Student Activities in the Audubon Room, Danna Center, second floor.
  • 2-3 p.m.: “Ignatius and His Companions.” Join the Rev. Ted Dziak, S.J., in Octavia Rooms I and II, Danna Center, second floor.
  • 3-4 p.m.: “Leadership Development.” Join Hollie Chessman, M.Ed., associate director for Student activities, in the Audubon Room, Danna Center, second floor.
  • 4-5 p.m.: Dean’s Open House. Visit with the dean and faculty from your son or daughter’s college at an informal afternoon tea. Dr. Jerry Dauterive, interim dean, The Joseph A. Butt, S.J., College of Business, and faculty will be located in the COB Atrium, Miller Hall, third floor. Dr. Frank E. Scully, dean, College of Humanities and Natural Sciences, and faculty will be located in the Visual Arts Center and Collins D. Diboll Gallery, Monroe Library, fourth floor. Dr. Edward Kvet, dean, College of Music and Fine Arts, and faculty will be located in the Music Collections, Monroe Library, first floor. Dr. Alfred L. Lorenz, interim dean, College of Social Sciences, and faculty will be located in the Senior Commons Room, Danna Center, second floor.
  • 5-6:30 p.m.: Family Weekend Presidential Welcome Reception. Join the Rev. Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D., university president for a special welcome reception. St. Charles Room, Danna Center.
  • 7:30 p.m.: Loyola Department of Theatre Arts and Dance presents: Excalibur!, Marquette Theater, Marquette Hall. Opening night party to follow performance. Due to limited seating, please RSVP to Amanda Hembree, assistant director of parent programs, at (504) 861-5858 to reserve tickets at a special rate.

  • 9-10:30 a.m.: Registration continues. Danna Center Lounge.
  • 8:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:45 p.m.: “One Year Later: Re-New Orleans” Bus Tours. Join Loyola’s Interim Director of the School of Mass Communications Robert A. Thomas, Ph.D., for a tour of New Orleans one year after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. Meet in front of Holy Name of Jesus Church. Tour lasts approximately two hours.

Sunday, March 11, 2007

  • 9 a.m.: Family Weekend Mass. University president Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., celebrant. St. Ignatius Chapel, Bobet Hall.
  • 10 a.m.: Jazz Brunch. A festive New Orleans style brunch served with a side of jazz by Loyola students. Orleans Room, Danna Center.

Registration is required for all events. The registration fee is $25 per individual, which includes all Family Weekend events (unless otherwise noted), admittance to Jazz Brunch, and a commemorative T-shirt. T-shirt sizes are not guaranteed. All events are complimentary for your Loyola student.
